Postcard Invitation Mock-Up
Postcard Invitation Mock-Up
Overview
For the editorial design course at Bradley University, students were to create a conceptual brand campaign for the 2019 St. Louis Design Week event. For visuals we could either choose from the theme (evolution) or include aspects of St. Louis and its culture. This project taught me several different techniques and crafting methods, including typography, image layout, and branding for an event. It also allowed me to show my knowledge of my hometown and focus on a specific cultural aspect important to its identity.
Process
Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, I had a tremendous amount of knowledge not only about the culture, but also how it could even apply to the theme of evolution. With this in mind, I decided to pick the St. Louis Zoo due to its unique visuals and its relation to the evolution of animals and species. I sketched preliminary designs for the logo as well as the layouts for the booklet and additional pieces. These concepts were then taken into Illustrator and Photoshop were they were revised and mocked-up.
Solutions & Results
This project turned out to be a great lesson in branding for an event and creating a complete promotional package. I used animal patterns throughout to harness the look of the St. Louis Zoo. Various natural aspects, such as bushes and grass, were added to create environments that animals would be in and to flesh out the identity of the event even further. While there were many points of revision and research, these items (postcard, badges, bag, website, and conference book) all work together as one huge promotional unit. It was also a truly unique and enjoyable way to add some playfulness and creativity to an event centered around art and design.
